Getting your round in quicker

A unique new idea in the sport, Compac Golf aims to let both existing golfers and new recruits play in places and at times which have never been possible before.

Compac Golf courses are built using the same materials and to the same standards as traditional sites but need as little as 6 acres for a course with par 3 holes. With about 15 acres, a full-size 6,500yd facility with par 5 holes can be created, typically costing less than £350,000 to design and build.

Since they occupy a lot less land - meaning that golf can be introduced into new regions such as urban and inner city areas - on-going costs like maintenance and irrigation are said to be a fraction of those associated with traditional courses.

Subject to planning consent, the course can be floodlit to extend the hours of play and includes bunkers, water features and US Golf Association standard greens.

Booking by the hour, a golfer can choose between playing six holes in one hour, twelve in two hours or a full eighteen in only three hours, the course being designed to suit all levels of expertise from beginners to low handicappers.

Following the game is easy, with tee markers, yardage markers and flags all being colour coded, and the game time is quicker meaning less waiting time.

Claimed to be simple and safe to operate, a course can be fully functional within 42 weeks and is easily added to an existing hotel, spa, leisure or educational establishment.

Following several years of concept development, the first Compac Golf course is now open at Teddington in west London.
